Dangers of Non-Stick Cookware

A recent study and a Massachusetts University found toxic chemicals in breast milk. Out of 45 nursing mothers tested, all were found to have contain the toxic chemicals perfluorooctane sulfonate and perfluorooctanoic acid. Perfluorooctane sulfonate. These chemicals have been linked to issues such as cancer, developmental defects and hormonal imbalances, and almost any woman can transfer them to her child. So what’s the answer? Stop breastfeeding? No! The benefits of breast milk are essentials to children and have not yet been replicated by science. The answer lies in your kitchen!

The chemicals found in the study results, are used to coat non-stick cookware! If you want non-stick cookware, use stone bakeware, or cast iron.

Put Out That Addiction

Smoking is a horrible habit that kills too many people, too many housewives every single year. So this year, for those of you who do smoke, let’s give it up! Let’s give our families an extra ten or twenty years with us! I know it can be hard, I know that it is stressful and exhausting and emotional. I know this, because I used to smoke, and I quit cold turkey, all natural!

Take it from someone who knows it girls, I use to love to smoke. I actually enjoyed it. I knew the health risks that I was taking and I just plain didn’t care. My husband complained about it constantly, and I even had to go to extra lengths to avoid letting my other family members find out about it. I would sneak out of my house at 3 in the morning, in the shivering cold, in my pajamas, just so I could get my fix. I had to carry gum and mints with me everywhere I went, just so that no one knew my shame. Even when it was pouring rain outside, I would stand there soaking wet, just cause I needed to finish that last cigarette.

But I quit! And so can you!

Are We Over Prescribed?

I was watching television tonight, my favorite show “House”. There was a rerun on involving babies that all caught some sort of virus, a ‘super bug‘. They were having trouble narrowing down what virus it was because it wasn’t responding to certain antibiotics, and then the main doctor says this,

“This is our fault. Doctors over-prescribing antibiotics. Got a cold? Take some penicillin. Sniffles? No problem. Have some azithromycin. Is that not working anymore? Oh, got your Levaquin. Antibacterial soaps in every bathroom. We’ll be adding vancomycin to the water supply soon. We bred these superbugs. They’re our babies. And they’re all grown up and they’ve got body piercings and a lot of anger.” (Season One, “Maternity”)

Have You Lost the Spark?

It’s time to throw out the old “I have a headache” excuse and get back in the sack! We all enjoy sex because it emotionally connects us to our husbands, gives us pleasure, and acts on our romantic mind, but there are more reasons to turn out the lights (or leave them on) and your health can benefit from them!

Would you rather run 75 miles or have sex three times per week for a year? A scientific study shows that both activities burn the same number of calories! I don’t know about you girls, but I really don’t like to run!

Are You Juicing?

While a juicer or blender can be a great addition to any kitchen, most only ever use it for the occasional smoothie for breakfast. But do you know what amazing health benefits come from juicing?

To improve your juicing habits, here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Get a good machine. Don’t spend your husbands whole paycheck, but don’t narrow things down just by price. Look for quality. Don’t get one with too many parts. Simple is easier. A 450 watt is recommended, anything higher could create too much heat in the juice.
  •  Fresh fruits and veggies contain the most vitamins. Never try to juice fruit that is overly ripe.
  • Don’t juice it if you wouldn’t eat it. Start slow. Once you get a hang no juicing, then you can start adding spinach leaves, and other veggies into your fruit juices.
  • Adding celery and cucumber to your juice is a great natural diuretic.
  • Adding watermelon to your juice is a great way to help cleanse your liver.
  • Try freezing the pulp to later add to cakes, stocks and other recipes.
  • One pound of produce will equal about 8 ounces of juice.
